In the most difficult conditions in the middle East, Yazidis defend their language, culture and family values. In Armenia, these rights are guaranteed by law.

The Yezidi people were, are and will remain, never to give up. This was stated in the Armenian Parliament by Deputy from the Yazidi community of the Republic Rustam Bakoyan. He addressed his compatriots in their historical homeland (in Syria and Iraq), in Armenia and around the world on the occasion of one of the main holidays of the Yazidi people – Malak Tavus. It is celebrated in mid-April and bears the name of the highest angel in cartaginese (Yezidi religion).

Like Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks, the Yazidis experienced genocide in their historical homeland under Ottoman and Kemalist Turkey. And now, a hundred years later, Yazidis are again trying to exterminate on their ancestral land-in Iraq and Syria. Radical Islamists want to take away the homeland and exterminate Christians and Yazidis who have lived in the middle East for thousands of years. In 2014, Yazidis survived the genocide in Northern Iraq (the Sinjar massacre).

"We are still being killed for belonging to a nation and religion. We must never give up, we must fight. First of all, we need a high national consciousness, and for this we need to consistently preserve the foundations of our consciousness - our language, culture and family values," Bakoyan said.

At the same time, he stressed, it is necessary to review a number of well-established ideas. But this does not mean that it is necessary to deprive women and girls of the opportunity to get an education. We need to be organized, have a responsible and competent society, he added.

"I wish my Yazidi people a happy new year. I wish my brothers and sisters respect and care for each other. We live in Armenia, where our life, as well as the lives of other citizens of the country, is of the highest value," Bakoyan stressed.

He stressed that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaker of the Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan and Chairman of the yerkrapa volunteer Union Sasun Mikaelyan addressed a congratulatory message to the Yazidi people. "With your permission, I would like to address my compatriots around the world in our native language," Bakoyan added. After that, he delivered a speech in Yazidi, to the applause of fellow deputies.

It should be recalled that Armenian leaders regularly congratulate the country's national communities on national holidays. In particular, on April 1, such congratulations were repeated on the occasion of HAB-Nisan, the Assyrian New year. Yazidi, Russian and Assyrian are taught in secondary schools to students from these national communities.
