Renimatologist Levan Ratiani does not rule out that due to unknown factors, the coronavirus is spreading more slowly in Georgia than in many European countries.

"The fact that this virus does not manifest in the same way as in other countries can be caused by several factors, including geographical ones, since we are adapted to different conditions… I worked for several years at the Institute of physiology and in 80% of cases our genetics depends on adrenal (the hormone produced by the adrenal glands-NG), in other words, we are not "calm", but "active". At this stage, when we enter the peak, we should already have a lot of cases, but fortunately, we do not have a large number of cases yet and I hope this will continue. There is some factor that we don't know about yet," the expert said.

According to him, it is possible that the feature of the reaction to the virus detected in the clinic, which is typical for residents of Georgia, also plays a role.

"The virus enters the body, then into the lungs, where it meets a protein, thanks to this protein, it "sits" on the receptor and begins to reproduce. And probably the population in Georgia has a deficiency of this receptor due to a deficiency of this protein in the body," Ratiani explained.

According to him, entering the body, the coronavirus affects all three types of circulatory system: cellular, coagulation and immune, including white blood cells.

"And we noticed in our population that severe cases are directly related to a deficiency of eosinophils (a type of white blood cell whose function is to fight multicellular parasites-NG).

Eosinophilia is when a parasite or virus enters the body, in response, the eosinophil index is greatly reduced as a reaction to stress. This is described only for our population, that as a reaction to the virus in our population, in our genotype and phenotype, there is a deficit of eosinophils, the level falls to zero. In other countries, patients begin to have lymphopenia (a decrease in the absolute number of lymphocytes in the blood-NG), and in our population – eosinophenia (a decrease in the number of eosinophils in the peripheral blood below the minimum limit. Does not have a noticeable effect on the body-NG). In other words, the mechanism is completely different, " the expert said.

He stressed that today researchers often write that patients in different countries react differently to the virus.

In Europe and the United States, people often write about arterial hypertension of the lungs in patients with coronavirus. in our clinic, no such case was detected. This is when the pressure in the lungs increases and, to put it simply," breaks " the alveoli and disrupts all the functions of the lungs. Also, the pressure of the pulmonary artery in the thoracic region increases. Every day we do cardiocel patients in my clinic and I can say that this syndrome we have. So this virus manifests itself differently in different genotypes, " the expert stressed.
