“It is no time to dispute over trivial issues. We have to act. I am afraid that if this continues, the smaller parties cannot overcome the 5% election threshold,” said jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

Speaking via a video link at today’s trial, Saakashvili remarked that the current government officials were not accountable to people, thinking they could do everything. He emphasized that he had stepped down to “bring the country’s interest forward.”

According to Mikheil Saakashvili, if the small parties do not unite, the United National Movement (UNM) and Victory Platform would have to “fight and win alone in the elections against the ruling party.”

“I would like to say what will happen next because I do not doubt winning. The first law, which we are going to adopt, will annul pension loans, which are inhuman. Secondly, we will facilitate Georgians’ return home. The third thing will be the establishment of a fund to stimulate business, and the fourth law will be against currency exchange to stop speculation over money transfers. All currencies will be in use,” he said.

The ex-president also elaborated on further plans for the development of agriculture, amnesty, and handing over lands into private ownership.
