First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia Nino Tandilashvili and the United States Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan familiarized themselves with the work of the walnut and almond processing enterprise opened with financial support from the state and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Chumlakhi village of Gurjaani municipality.

"The support of the U.S. government is very important for the agricultural sector. We are jointly implementing such projects, which will ultimately bring us even more progress in agriculture," Nino Tandilashvili said.

According to U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Robin Dunnigan, the venture is the result of close cooperation between the private and public sectors, as well as USAID, which aims to strengthen local farmers and create jobs.

According to the Ministry of Environment, 3 million GEL was invested in the establishment of Nuts Processing, of which 500,000 GEL was a grant from the Rural Development Agency; the company enjoys a preferential agro-credit. The production of the company is 600 tons. At this stage, the products are sold on the domestic market and export is planned.

The Rural Development Agency provides support to 15 nut processing enterprises in the direction of development of processing and storage infrastructure, state co-financing exceeds 7.1 million GEL.
