Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili called on the government's opponents to take part in building the country's European future, putting state positions above narrow political interests, and to work together to fulfill the European Commission's conditions.

On November 8, 2023, the European Commission released a report on the implementation of 12 conditions by Georgia and recommended the European Council to grant the country the status of a candidate for EU accession. In doing so, the European Commission called on Georgia to take nine steps, including holding free elections, convergence with EU foreign policy, depolarization and more.

"I urge them to put public positions above a narrow political agenda and engage in building a European future for this country. They have the opportunity to engage in discussions, to participate in debates. We offer them this space so that Georgia can successfully implement reforms. I believe that our call will be understood by specific groups and they will take responsibility" - said Darchiashvili.

According to the Foreign Minister, Georgia should demonstrate progress towards European integration as much as possible.

"This is a complex process, so in many cases only steps taken by Georgia are not enough, it requires political decisions from our European partners," Darchiashvili said.

The Minister emphasized that the authorities are in a hurry for the country to become a full member of the European Union family, so it is necessary to implement all the reforms on the agenda as much as possible.

Besides, according to Ilia Darciashvili, the main message of the government has always been, is and will be that Georgia should show better results at every next election.

The Minister also called on the opposition to join the working groups in order to jointly implement the recommendations.

"We are actively working with the Venice Commission and relevant international organizations so that all the reforms we have implemented in this direction, revolutionary steps will be taken to guarantee that Georgia will hold transparent, transparent and high-level elections, for which the Georgian authorities are doing everything both practically and at the legislative level," the Minister said.

Georgia will get candidate status if the decision of the European Commission is supported by the leaders of all 27 EU countries. The decision will be made on December 14-15, 2023.
