China is trying to contribute to Georgia's development, Chinese Ambassador Zhou Qian told the media, noting that the country is Georgia's third largest trading partner.

China is among the five major trade partners of Georgia. The foreign trade turnover with China in January-October 2023 amounted to 1.4 billion dollars.

"We are also trying to contribute to Georgia's development and now we want to realize projects for IDPs in Gori (Shida Kartli region)", the ambassador said.

Currently, there are about 287,000 IDPs from the territories outside the control of Georgia's central authorities - Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia) - living in Georgia.

Zhou Qian also emphasized that China is Georgia's third largest trade partner.

"Speaking about the relations between Georgia and China, I would like to say that we are Georgia's third largest trading partner and largest export market", the ambassador said.

Georgia and China established diplomatic relations on June 9, 1992. Since then, bilateral relations have gradually developed and mainly focused on economic cooperation.

At the end of July 2023, Georgia and China announced the transition to a new level of bilateral relations - strategic partnership. In addition, since September 12, Georgia has introduced a visa-free regime for Chinese citizens. They can enter Georgia for tourism purposes and stay in the country for up to 30 days.

China is one of Georgia's main trade partners. The trade turnover between the two countries in 2022 increased by 25.8% compared to 2021 and amounted to more than $1.8 billion. Exports from Georgia to China last year increased by 19.7% and amounted to 736.7 million dollars.
