Georgian Parliamentary delegation supports Tiny Kox as PACE President
The Georgian parliamentary delegation supported Tiny Kox as President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Before the vote, the chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, commented on the issue.
Kobakhidze stated that the Georgian delegation would not support an alternative candidate and gave a specific reason for this.
"We support the re-election of Tiny Kox. It is an accepted practice in the Council of Europe that after being elected according to a certain quota, the quota of a political party is used for re-election for a second term. In this case, elections are held. There is an alternative candidate, but in principle we will support the continuation of the practice that has developed in the Assembly.
The alternative candidate is Mr. Merezhko, a representative of Ukraine involved in the adoption of absolutely unacceptable changes for us. This is one of the factors why we will not support his candidacy. We will support the candidacy of Tiny Kox. We are talking about changes related to the introduction of Saakashvili's name in the previous resolution, at the previous session, which was categorically unacceptable for us", Kobakhidze said.
Tiny Kox has been elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for the second time.
