Another wind farm will be built in the east of Georgia

The second wind farm with a capacity of 20.7 megawatts will be built in the municipality of Gori (Shida Kartli region), the press service of the Government Administration reports.

The estimated output of the wind farm is 85.23 million kilowatt-hours. The volume of investments in the project is estimated at $23.3 million.

At a meeting on Monday, members of the government discussed a draft resolution "On the agreement between the Government of Georgia and the International Energy Corporation of Georgia LLC on the construction of the Skra wind farm, according to which the company should conduct a feasibility study of the plant at its own expense during the year.

To date, one Kartli wind farm with a capacity of 20 MW is operating in Georgia near the city of Gori (Eastern Georgia).

Switching to alternative energy sources is a trend observed all over the world.

It is an important direction for the Government of Georgia. The country plans to strengthen the integration of solar and wind energy into the energy system. With the annual increase in electricity consumption, experts believe that by 2030 Georgia may face a serious energy shortage.

According to the Georgian Electricity Market Operator (ESCO), from January to November 2022, 13.1 billion kilowatt-hours were generated in Georgia, 14.6% more than the same data last year.

A large share of the generated energy came from hydroelectric power plants – 10.4 billion kilowatt-hours, thermal power plants generated about 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours and the Kartli wind farm – 79.98 million kilowatt-hours.

In 11 months of 2022, Georgia consumed about 13.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is 4.8% more than in January-November 2021.
