According to the new fraud scheme, cybercriminals use the Google search engine for attacks, where they advertise fraudulent websites, according to the Association of Banks of Georgia.

The Association of Banks of Georgia warns the population about cyber threats, in particular phishing, which has become more frequent in the country recently.

Phishing is a mechanism for extracting the personal data of Internet users. Cybercriminals create fake websites similar to the pages of well-known companies and banks and try to deceive users into entering their personal data. Another type of fraud is the sending of e-mail messages that ask the consumer to enter their personal name data (password, bank card number, etc.).

According to the Association, cybercriminals are increasingly deceiving citizens to appropriate their money. According to the new fraud scheme, cybercriminals use the Google search engine for attacks, where they advertise fraudulent websites.

The Association explains that the address of such fake pages is often similar to the real address of the Internet banking of commercial banks. Cybercriminals try to fraudulently force users to enter their personal data (username and password), which is then abused by fraudsters.

The Association gives advice on preventing phishing attacks:

* Do not click on questionable links. By moving the cursor to the link, the address of the current web page is displayed

* Carefully look at the address of the site where you enter the password, make sure that you are really on the bank's website. In some cases, the fake address may differ from the real one by just one character

· To use online banking, instead of searching for a specific bank name in the Google search box, enter the address of the commercial bank's website directly in the address bar.

· Use the mobile banking app on your mobile device.

The Georgian authorities are actively fighting cybercrime, which is a challenge of the 21st century. So, in the country in 2020, cybercrime increased by 24%, and the police detained and prosecuted 152 cybercriminals.
