33.4 thousand drivers of international freight transport were tested for coronavirus when entering Georgia. This was reported in the revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance.

At customs checkpoints, antibody tests are performed on absolutely all drivers – both Georgian citizens and foreigners. The procedure is performed by doctors of the revenue Service. The process is coordinated by the national center for disease control and public health of Georgia.

"If the driver of a vehicle engaged in international cargo transportation violates the rules of epidemiological control and quarantine, he will be fined in accordance with the legislation of Georgia," the Ministry said.

Targeted testing for the new coronavirus is also carried out among customs officers who belong to the risk group. Employees of all customs points of Georgia, as well as economic zones, are periodically checked.

Over the past month, international drivers have become one of the main sources of infection in the country.

According to the protocols in force in Georgia, if a driver is confirmed to have a coronavirus during an Express test at the border, they are sent to a hospital where laboratory tests are performed. At the same time, a two-week quarantine remains mandatory for all drivers returning to Georgia.
