The Council of the European Union has updated the list of safe countries. The new list includes 12 countries instead of 14. The list of safe countries no longer includes Serbia and Montenegro.

In the updated list, the Council of the European Union recommends that member States open their borders with Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.

The list of safe countries includes China, but communication with China will resume only after the country itself opens its borders to the EU.

The EU Council first recommended opening borders to member States on June 30. Georgia was also on the officially approved list.

At the same time, on July 8, Georgia opened its borders to several EU countries: Germany, France, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
