The Georgian Parliament supported the amendments to the Labor code in the first reading. 90 deputies voted in favor of the changes. If the bill is adopted, the interests of employees will be protected and regulated on a number of important issues, including in the context of overtime payments or the time frame of internships.

According to the changes, overtime work must be paid at an increased rate. The employer will be required to pay 125% of the amount they normally pay during working hours. However, according to the amendments, the parties will be able to agree on alternative compensation for "processing", in particular, by providing additional days of rest.

Amendments to the Labor code also regulate the issue of weekends. The duration of continuous rest between working days (shifts) must be at least 12 hours. However, the employer must provide the employee with at least 1 day off per week.

In addition, according to the bill, if the working time during the working day is at least 6 hours, the employee has the right to a break of 60 minutes.
