According to Hungary's Deputy Minister for EU Affairs Barna Zsigmond, Hungary is in favor of Georgia's European integration and supports Georgia's acceptance of the EU candidate status.

Barna Zsigmond said this after a meeting with the chairman of the Georgian Dream party Irakli Kobakhidze.

"We have always supported Georgia and will continue to do so in the future. We believe that this will be a decision that will ultimately affect the granting of EU candidate status to Georgia. We believe that the enlargement process should not be a political decision, given that Georgia fulfills the requirements, and we believe that it will be a decision that will lead us to candidate status", the Hungarian Deputy Minister for EU Affairs said.

In addition, as he noted, the issue of Ukraine is a process in its own right.

"In the case of Georgia, we see that it is necessary. In the case of Ukraine, we see that we need a new strategy because there is a war in that country and we cannot develop a system that is fully compatible with the European legal system", Barna Zsigmond said.

Barna Zsigmond is one of the leaders of Hungary's ruling Fidesz party and was present at the meetings of the Georgian delegation in Budapest.
