Successful students from the new academic year 2023-2024 will receive an increased scholarship, Georgian Minister of Education and Science Giorgi Amilakhvari said during a speech in parliament in the "Minister's hour" format.

Instead of 150 GEL ($55), students will receive 300 GEL ($110) per month for ten months – from October to July inclusive.

Amilakhvari also stated that the number of fellows will double. At the moment, 2.5 thousand students receive a scholarship. Starting from the new academic year, five thousand successful students will receive a scholarship.

According to the Minister, it is very important for the Georgian government to encourage motivated, hardworking students with high academic performance.

The Minister also said that by the decision of the Government of Georgia, students with suspended status had their financial debts abolished. This decision affected 27 thousand students of both public and private higher educational institutions of the country.

All these young guys can restore their status and continue their studies, the minister stressed.

In total, according to "Geostat", in the 2022-2023 academic year, more than 160 thousand students’ study in higher educational institutions of Georgia, which is 0.9% more than in the previous academic year.

It is possible to enroll in Georgian universities on the basis of passing Unified national exams, during which applicants must pass three compulsory subjects and one of the university's choices.

Enrollment is based on the points received. The percentage of funding from the state also depends on them.

In Georgia, students enjoy certain benefits from the state, including benefits for transport, paperwork, visits to nature reserves, museums, and so on.
