Georgia is one of 43 countries that have joined the Council of Europe's agreement to create a "register of damage" to Ukraine from the actions of the Russian Federation.

The decision was made at the Council of Europe summit in Reykjavik. Georgia was represented by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

Thirty-nine European countries, as well as Canada, the United States, Japan and the European Union joined the agreement on the registry. Andorra, Bulgaria and Switzerland expressed their intention to join the document.

The register will be created in the Hague (Netherlands) and an additional office will be in Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that the registry will include information on damages and claims for compensation. According to Macron, the collected documents will help bring Moscow to financial and criminal responsibility.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed that the international database will allow the countries of the Council of Europe to jointly record the damage caused by Russia in order to create "the necessary basis for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

According to estimates of the Kiev School of Economics, during the year of war in Ukraine more than 150 thousand houses were destroyed or damaged, more than 25 thousand kilometers of roads, 344 bridges (some of them already restored), several thousand kindergartens, schools and hospitals. According to UNESCO, at least 248 cultural objects and museums were damaged or destroyed in Ukraine.
