"Georgia, like our region, is an object of double interest of the West with an important function related to the diversification of sources of European energy supplies, transport routes, and Georgia, as an important participant in this process, also actively cooperates with all partners", Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said during his speech in parliament.

According to Darchiashvili, recent political events in the region have significantly increased the importance of updating Eurasian transport routes and diversifying transport corridors. The role of the trans-Caspian international transport route connecting Asia and Europe, the so-called "Middle Corridor" in terms of uninterrupted and efficient transportation of goods between East and West is revealed.

As noted by Darchiashvili, in this context, Georgia has once again confirmed its reliable partnership and contributed to the safe, stable and timely transportation of increased cargo traffic in full compliance with the current international sanctions.

During his speech, the Minister focused on the project of the Black Sea Underwater Transmission Cable, which, according to him, "The Black Sea underwater transmission cable adds a new European purpose to Georgia, significantly increases Georgia's role in ensuring Europe's energy security". According to the Minister, "as a result of the project, Georgia becomes not only a reliable transit country, but also an exporter of renewable energy produced in the country". Darchiashvili stressed that the project of the Black Sea underwater power transmission line is recognized by the European Union and included in the so-called list of flagship projects of "communications", which also implies the financial contribution of the European Union for the implementation of the project.

The information is distributed by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
