What does Şêx mean?
Şêx means “sheikh caste.” One of the hereditary religious castes; individual mirîd families maintain a prescribed relationship with a sheikh lineage.
Yazidi religious offices and hereditary relationships are specific institutions, not direct equivalents of similarly translated offices in other religions. The English gloss is functional and intentionally brief.
