What does Pîr mean?
Pîr means “pir caste.” One of the hereditary religious castes; each mirîd family is traditionally affiliated with a pir lineage.
Yazidi religious offices and hereditary relationships are specific institutions, not direct equivalents of similarly translated offices in other religions. The English gloss is functional and intentionally brief.
