Kobakhidze: It would be better if the EU had a clearer and more time-bound plan for the accession of specific countries

According to the chairman of the Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze, it would be better if the European Union had a clearer and more time-bound plan in terms of the accession of specific countries. He told reporters about this.
"Charles Michel named a specific year, 2030 [in terms of EU enlargement]. This gave grounds for optimism, at least for the Balkan countries. You know that Macedonia has been waiting for accession for 18 years. Macedonia has been a candidate country for 18 years, but the issue of its accession is still not being actively considered. When the year 2030 was named, it was probably an encouraging statement for Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, but later the European Commission denied this and noted that it was wrong to talk about 2030 as well. When a country has been waiting for membership for 18 years, and you say that it may not be granted membership status even after 7 years, this, of course, gives grounds for pessimism, and this is very bad. It would be better if the EU had a clearer plan, time-bound, in terms of the accession of specific countries.
The opposition is always speculating, but the main thing for us is to move forward towards Europe, for this we need to implement appropriate reforms, we need economic growth. We have tangible progress in all areas. This is the main thing for us and the answer to the speculations that I hear from the opposition," Irakli Kobakhidze said.
