There are no objective reasons for Mikheil Saakashvili's transfer to the intensive care unit. This was stated at a briefing in Tbilisi by the Minister of Justice of Georgia Rati Bregadze. This is how he commented on the situation around the deterioration of the health of the third president undergoing treatment at the Vivamed clinic.

The head of the Ministry of Justice accused the radical opposition of destructive actions, saying that "in order to preserve political viability" they are politicizing and manipulating the issue of Saakashvili's health. The campaign demanding that the ex-president be transferred to the intensive care unit, according to him, is aimed at forming a false perception in society about the state of the politician and artificially aggravating the emotional background.

"As part of the aforementioned campaign, false information was deliberately spread yesterday by Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyer and members of his political team, as if the prisoner had been transferred to the intensive care unit. In matters of treatment, the opinions of medical personnel are reliable for us, and not baseless statements of politically engaged persons aimed at misleading the public. According to yesterday's statement by the director of the Vivamed clinic, the patient does not have a violation of the function of swallowing or any other interfering mechanism that may exist for eating", the IPN agency quotes the minister's statement.

According to Bregadze, the convict was offered parenteral nutrition, which he categorically refuses, stating that he will agree to such nutrition only if he is transferred to the intensive care unit.

"The physiological parameters of the patient remain within the normal range. Even the mass index does not correspond to the parameters of treatment in the intensive care unit, which ultimately means that there are no objective reasons for transferring Mikheil Saakashvili to the intensive care unit. Accordingly, the public must know that the measures necessary for health, in particular, parenteral nutrition, which can be freely carried out in the ward where the convicted Saakashvili is, cannot be carried out due to the refusal of the prisoner himself, the doctor is not given the proper opportunity to take care of the prisoner's health, and the ultimatum and the threat of self-harm are categorically unacceptable for us and for the whole society", Bregadze said.
