The US government recently helped nearly 100 Yazidi families who had taken refuge in Iraqi Kurdistan after the capture of their hometowns by ISIS terrorist gangs to return to their homes in the Sinjar area.

"With the financial support of the US government, about 100 Yazidi families were able to return to their homes in Qahtaniyah in Sinjar from the camp for internally displaced persons", the US Consulate General in Erbil said in a statement published on January 30.

Yazidis are representatives of national minorities who originally live in the territory of present—day Iraq, have their own religion (Sharfadin) and believe in one God, mostly Yazidis lived in Sinjar, which was captured by ISIS terrorists in August 2014. The militants subjected Yazidis to genocide, killing, forcing them to flee and taking thousands of people into slavery.

ISIS has destroyed 68 Yazidi shrines, forcing nearly 400,000 Yazidi men and women to seek safety in neighboring Kurdistan. Most of these people remain internally displaced, and the hometowns of Yazidis remain largely controlled by illegal armed groups to this day.
