As we know, Yazidi community recognizes a newborn as a Yazidi only if his parents, father and mother are Yazidis. A Yazidi who has renounced his faith is also not considered and is not recognized as a Yazidi.

After Yazidi genocide in 2014, top Yazidi clerics made an exception and decided to accept enslaved women and girls back into the Yazidi community and religion. According to Yazidi faith, children born in slavery and as a result of rape cannot convert to Yazidi religion and cannot be accepted as Yazidis, but the desire for the full acceptance of children and mothers into Yazidi community is of particular importance from the point of view of human rights, women and children, even if the children are considered Muslims. Children are also considered Muslims in accordance with the Iraqi citizenship law, which takes as a basis the religious affiliation of the father.

Bearing these facts in mind, the German Parliament believes that the abduction, enslavement and rape of women have been used by ISIS from the very beginning and deliberately with the aim of completely eradicating Yazidis and their cohesion for generations.

The German Parliament recognizes the particularly vulnerable situation of Yazidi children whose fathers are not Yazidis. The Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany also supports the Yazidi community in its respected efforts to accept these children into its society, support them and protect them from discrimination. The genocide of Yazidis in Iraq continues everywhere, more than 2,700 Yazidis remain missing and mass graves continue to be discovered. Meanwhile, about 300,000 Yazidis are currently living in displaced persons camps.

Acts of genocide have been described and documented in various ways, primarily by brave women survivors such as Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Lamia Haji Bashar, Farida Khalaf and many others. For more than eight years, activists have been trying to draw the world's attention to events that, unfortunately, are being forgotten in Iraq year after year.

An important contribution is the protection programs for the affected Yazidis, for example, in Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Berlin and Brandenburg. The special quota that Baden-Württemberg has allocated to vulnerable women and children in Iraq since 2014 has led to Germany accepting 1,100 women and children who receive, among other things, psychological and medical support.

In Iraq, ISIL militants are punished on the basis of terrorism crimes and murders in accordance with the Iraqi Criminal Code. It does not in any way affect the special vocabulary of international criminal law, for example, aimed at approving the genocide of Yazidis. The possibility of a death sentence also restricts UNITAD in providing information to the Iraqi authorities. Germany is committed to the criminal investigation of ISIS crimes, as well as the documentation and preservation of evidence by UNITAD and other partner organizations.

The history of Yazidi minority is marked by expulsion and deportation from their homes, as well as the constant threat to their existence through their destruction. Many times Yazidis have been forced to seek a new home in exile, the recognition and resolution of this special history of Yazidis is the duty and responsibility of the international community.
