The spiritual leader of the Yazidis in Iraq, Mir Hazim Tahsin Beg, and his accompanying delegation met with Pope Francis at the Vatican.

Making a statement about the meeting, which took place at the official invitation, Tahsin Beg said: "It was an important meeting, we were very warmly welcomed. We discussed the situation of the Yazidis and the situation in Shangal and Southern Kurdistan. The Pope promised that they will do everything possible for the Yazidis to ensure that the international community puts pressure on Iraq to solve the Shangal problem".

Political disagreements in Shangal over the return of thousands of Yazidis to their homeland, the fate of 3,000 missing women and children became the main topics of the meeting between Pope Francis and the Emir of Yazidis. Meyan Khatun, the wife of Hazim Beg, who was part of the delegation, also expressed the desire that the injustice against all women in the world, and especially Yazidi women, would stop.

After listening carefully to the problems faced by the Yazidis, the Pope promised to help Yazidis of Iraq and the Yazidi migrants stuck in Greece.
