Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili said that the country's government and the ruling party are firmly committed to fulfilling the conditions for obtaining candidate status in the EU, but does not see proper support from the opposition.

The Head of Government made a statement after talks with the European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Oliver Varhey, who arrived in Tbilisi.

"Mr. Commissioner, unfortunately, not all actors are involved in the process — the opposition is not involved. We clearly explained to them what is needed to fulfill the main, first recommendation of the recommendations, namely depolarization… This cannot be achieved unless there is a similar willingness to cooperate on their part", Garibashvili said.

The Prime Minister claimed that the Georgian authorities — the government, the parliament and the ruling party - are actively working to implement all 12 recommendations of the European Commission and are open to cooperation with all opposition parties and the non-governmental sector.

Garibashvili said that "all tangible results on Georgia's European path belong to the current ruling party", since "until 2012, the country lived under a dictatorial-autocratic regime".

"The Association Agreement, the free trade agreement, the visa-free regime, and now the European perspective. We have brought all this for our people and country … It was a lot of hard work done by our team ... Until 2012 there were no signs of democracy – no free media, no free courts ... we fixed all this and in a short period of time achieved tangible results, which distinguishes Georgia as one of the leading countries in the Eastern European Partnership group", Garibashvili said.
