President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani received Yazidi activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad, the parties discussed measures to rescue the Yazidi minority who went missing after the attack of the terrorist group ISIS in 2014. It is high time to put an end to the long suffering of all those who continue to endure modern slavery.

Also, this week Nadia Murad, together with the French Ambassador to Iraq Eric Chevalier, visited Shangal in order to inspect the territory of the French hospital, which is being built at the expense of the European fund of the country.

Thousands of Yazidis, including women and children, were killed in the north-west of Iraq as a result of the capture of Shangal by ISIS terrorists. More than 6,000 Yazidi women and girls were abducted by extremists who subjected them to various forms of atrocities, including sexual violence and enslavement.

According to the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, about 3,000 Yazidi girls and women continue to be missing.

Thousands of Yazidis continue to remain in camps in the Kurdistan Region, as they cannot return to their homes due to instability and lack of efforts to rebuild the towns and villages where the Yazidi population lived.
