A number of schools in the Sinjar region have become the headquarters of the Iraqi armed security forces, while the education sector is suffering from a shortage of school buildings.

According to local sources, at least four school buildings in the center of Sinjar, Sinuni and Khan Sur districts have become the headquarters of the armed forces.

Kamal Haasan, director of the Sarkoten Preparatory School in the center of Sinjar, said that the main problem facing the educational process is the lack of buildings, 80 percent of schools are Arab, including his school. That's why the regional government should create new schools where Yazidi children will study and learn their native language at least as an elective.

On October 16, 2017 and in the following days, part of the administrations of the disputed territories with the Kurdish Peshmerga forces retreated after relations between the federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government deteriorated due to the consequences of the independence referendum and the tension and confrontation that followed.

The Kurdish Education Department in Sinjar controls 55 basic and preparatory schools, some of which operate in buildings belonging to Arab studies, in addition to the presence of about 90 schools in Yazidi refugee camps in Kurdistan.

There are two education departments in Sinjar district (the department of Kurdish Studies and the Department of Arabic Studies), in which more than 54 thousand students study, most of them still live in camps for displaced persons in Kurdistan regions - Kurdish studies includes about 30 thousand students, these faculties are also attended by members of the Yazidi minority.

According to the Sinjar Agreement, which was concluded between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in 2020, a new administration should be formed in the judicial system, as well as the security and service business should be reorganized, but the terms of the agreement have not been implemented so far, and more than eight armed forces are currently present in Sinjar.
