Nobel Prize laureate Nadia Murad thanked the Greek government for their support and shelter for Yazidi refugees, in particular thanking the Prime Minister and his wife for their great sympathy and support.

"I am delighted to meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece and his wife Mareva Mitsotakis. I am very grateful for the time I spent with them discussing the situation of the Yazidis in Iraq and the situation of those stuck outside the camp and other areas of Greece. Refugee protection should be a common priority for all countries of the world and procedures should be facilitated for those wishing to migrate", Nadia said.

Nadia Murad called on the Iraqi government and the international community to take the necessary steps to end the prolonged suffering of the Yazidi people that has led to displacement.

She concluded that when Governments and the international community do nothing, victims of genocide and victims of sexual violence are forced to risk their lives in search of safety elsewhere and often become victims of traffickers on their way in search of freedom, security, life and dignity.
