In 2022 Georgia and Russia increased trade by almost 70%

The foreign trade turnover between Georgia and Russia in January-August exceeded $1.4 billion, which is 68.7% more than last year.

This is stated in the materials of the National Statistics Office of Georgia “GEOSTAT”.

Russia is Georgia's second largest trading partner. The first place is occupied by Turkey, whose foreign trade turnover for eight months amounted to about $ 1.8 billion. China is on the third line ($1.2 billion).

During the reporting period, Georgia exported $409.3 million worth of goods to Russia. The value of imports from Russia exceeded $1 billion. 

What does Georgia buy from Russia?

Oil products are the main group of goods that Georgia buys from Russia. According to GEOSTAT, their value in January-August was $337.2 million.

· The volume of imports from the Russian Federation in the group "petroleum gases and gaseous hydrocarbons" exceeds $44.5 million;

· Wheat-rye flour – $44.4 million;

· Coal, peat or lignite coke and semi–coke - $43.6 million;

· Margarine – $29,2 million;

· Other goods – $569,4 million.

What does Georgia sell to Russia?

· Ferroalloys – $101.1 million;

· Wine – $90.3 million;

· Cars – $34.2 million;

· Alcoholic beverages – $34.1 million;

· Mineral and fresh waters – $28.5 million;

· Other goods – $120.8 million.

As the RBC publication notes, after the introduction of sanctions against Russia, the growth of exports of goods is observed from almost all neighboring countries. Along with Georgia, supplies from Armenia, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have increased.

Overall, in January-August 2022, foreign trade turnover in Georgia (excluding unorganized trade) amounted to more than $11.9 billion, which is 36.6% more than during the same period last year.
