The State Agency for Religious Affairs announces the distribution of budget funds to religious organizations

The State Agency for Religious Affairs publishes information on the distribution of money from the state budget to four religious associations this year.
In total, 5.5 million lari was allocated to four religious organizations during 2022.
The Decree of the Government of Georgia No. 117 of January 27, 2014 is called “Rules for the implementation of certain measures related to partial compensation for damage caused to religious associations in Georgia during the period of the Soviet totalitarian regime.”
It is this document that provides for the allocation of 4.5 million lari. Of these, based on the recommendation of the State Agency for Religious Affairs, 3.5 million lari are distributed as follows:
• Islamic community of Georgia - 2.2 million lari;
• Armenian Apostolic Christian Community of Georgia - 600 thousand GEL;
• Roman Catholic Christian Community of Georgia - 400 thousand GEL;
• Jewish community of Georgia - 300 thousand GEL;
An additional amount of one million lari from the state budget is distributed by the State Agency for Religious Affairs as follows:
• Islamic community of Georgia - 600 thousand GEL;
• Armenian Apostolic Christian Community of Georgia - 200 thousand GEL;
• Roman Catholic Christian community of Georgia - 100 thousand GEL;
• Jewish community of Georgia - 100 thousand GEL.
The agency notes that according to their recommendation No. 1/572 of September 12, after consulting with religious associations and taking into account “actual circumstances and objective indicators” - the number of parishioners, clergy and the number of places of worship, the additional 1 million lari allocated until 2022 was distributed "in a non-discriminatory and fair manner":
• Islamic community of Georgia - 550 thousand GEL;
• Armenian Apostolic Christian Community of Georgia - 200 thousand GEL;
• Roman Catholic Christian community of Georgia - 150 thousand GEL;
• Jewish community of Georgia - 100 thousand lari.

Ultimately, in 2022, the funds were distributed among religious organizations as follows:

• Islamic community of Georgia - 3 million 350 thousand GEL;
• Armenian Apostolic Christian Community of Georgia - 1 million GEL;
• Roman Catholic Christian community of Georgia - 650 fifty thousand lari;
• The Jewish community of Georgia - 500 thousand lari.
