About two weeks ago, approximately 120 Yazidi refugees were not allowed into the Serres camp in northern Greece. As it became known from officials, the Serres camp has received about 700 Yazidi refugees, now there are not enough places in it, according to camp workers, there are about 60 free reserve places left and they are designed for women and children.

According to the young people who sleep on the ground at the gates of the camp, each of them paid 1,000 euros to smugglers in Turkey for help to get to Greece. People walked for five days, many of them had many wounds on their legs and eventually, upon arrival at their destination, the camp doors were closed in front of them due to lack of places. In return, the men were asked to apply to another IDP camp, but soon this option was immediately postponed, because there are versions that Afghans and Syrians live in other refugee camps, among whom there may be radical Islamists who fraudulently flee to Europe.

In 2014, thousands of Yazidis fled the massacres committed by the terrorist group ISIS. It is noteworthy that in May 2021, the UN special investigation team announced the collection of "clear and convincing evidence" that a terrorist organization had committed genocide against the Yazidis.

The conservative Greek government has decided to close dozens of refugee camps to stop the flow of migrants. Immigration Minister Notis Mitarachi said in an interview on September 4 that there are currently 34 camps in the country compared to 121 that operated two years ago and the Greek government plans to close two more camps.

For his part, Murad Ismail, one of the founders of the International Organization of Yazidis, said that the Greek Ministry of Migration assures him that they are working to solve the problem and it will be solved as soon as possible, noting that officials have promised to provide asylum to refugees, whether in Serre or in another camp.
