Iraqi MP Khalid Khalil called on the international community to save the Yazidi migrants who have been stranded in Greece for the past few days.

Khalil said that the Greek authorities did not allow about 150 Yazidi migrants, including children and elderly people, to enter refugee camps in Greece.

He called successive Iraqi governments and the international community responsible for what the Yazidi community has endured, especially the terrorist invasion of Shangal in 2014.

MP called on Baghdad to contact the United Nations, the European Union and Athens to rescue the Yezidi migrants.

According to one of the migrants, a group of Yazidis from Shangal have been in Greece for almost a week in dire conditions and without means of subsistence, because the Greek authorities do not allow them to enter IDP camps and migrants are also not allowed to return to their homeland.

Greece is a key route used by refugees and migrants as an entry point into the European Union. Dozens of people, mostly young people, from all over the Kurdistan Region and Iraq choose smuggling routes every day out of desperation, hoping to escape the country's endless crises, including lack of jobs, political instability and corruption.

Hundreds of thousands of Yazidis fled their homes in the summer of 2014 when the terrorist group ISIS seized control of their homeland. The killing of Yazidis by IS terrorists has been recognized as genocide by several countries. According to the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Kidnapped Yazidi Rescue Office, about 1293 people were killed, more than 6000 people were Kidnapped in the first days of the IS terrorist campaign and more than 2000 people are missing.
