In Sinjar, in the area where the Yezidi population lives, a fire broke out at an electrical substation.

According to local residents, the fire broke out at about 22.00 pm, at a distribution power plant in the Sinjar district (west of Mosul), which led to a power outage to local residents, it is still unclear when the problem will be solved.

"The fire was brought under control in record time, fortunately, there were no casualties, but the fire caused great material damage to the station. After the fire was extinguished, we started repair work, but it is likely that the repair will take another couple of days," said Mirza Shamo, an employee of the repair department of the Sinjar Electricity Supply Department.

The cause of the fire was a malfunction of electrical equipment. The station consists of two large power transformers that connect 20 megawatts daily to provide electricity to residents of nearby areas where the Yezidi minority lives.

Currently, citizens are supplied with electricity daily for 10 hours a day from private generators according to a certain schedule, which starts from 12:00 to 16:00, and then from 19:00 to 12:00 the temperature in the area reaches more than 45 degrees.

The war with ISIS eight years ago caused great damage to the public sector in Sinjar, including water and electricity networks, most homes, schools and Yazidi temples were destroyed, in addition to the presence of thousands of displaced and missing Yazidis.
