The "Lelo for Georgia" party calls on the Georgian authorities to establish a visa regime for citizens of Russia and Belarus.
As noted in the official statement of the party, the flow of visitors from the occupying country is beyond any control and the relevant structures cannot control the citizens entering our territory from the occupying country, respectively, the country is not protected from challenges and existing threats.
"Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Lelo has been demanding a stricter visa regime with the Russian Federation. This issue is particularly acute today, after the number of visitors coming from the Russian Federation has dramatically increased. The flow of visitors coming from the occupying country is beyond any control. The relevant structures cannot control citizens who have entered our territory from the occupying country, the country is not protected against the challenges and existing dangers, which have critically increased against the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing hostilities.
It is also important that the US Congress directly named Russia as a state financing terrorism in Georgia. Given the existing threats, temporary measures should be taken to make it possible to control the flow of people entering the territory of Georgia.
Introduce a visa regime for citizens of Russia and Belarus (citizens of countries in hostilities with Ukraine); the duration of tourist visas should be set to 30 days (visas should be issued directly at the border and/or online); for those wishing to stay longer than 30 days, visas should be issued in accordance with procedures drawn up according to EU best practices", the party said in a statement.
