The fate of the Yezidi women after their release from captivity of the terrorist group ISIS is a serious test for the capabilities of state and public institutions and puts everyone before the problem of integrating their return to normal family life.

Yezidi girls abducted as children were distributed to criminals, as well as sold on the slave market and divided as spoils of war.

The Chief Judge of the Karkh Investigative Court, Ali Hussein Jafat, told local Yezidi media that one of the most serious crimes of genocide in recent history is the capture of families of the Yezidi minority that occurred in the provinces of Iraq (Sinjar, Mosul /Anbar/Salah al-Din) in 2014 during the invasion of ISIS, and this is one of the international crimes, shocked Iraq and the whole world.

According to him, the Yazidi people were a victim and a target for terrorism. Radical imams pushed ISIS terrorists to commit a crime against the Yazidi people, and many of them have not been arrested and brought to trial to this day.

The judge added that it is a crime to convert Yazidis to Islam (forcibly Islamized) during the entire period of ISIS control over the territories controlled by them. However, the captivity of Yezidi girls continues to this day, many Yezidi girls were forcibly married off to ISIS terrorists, and when the husband died in battle, the girl was married off to another, and so on, some of them were married dozens of times.

Victims of terrorism and not only

The judge explains the special "problem" facing the Yezidi victims — the presence of children. Victims face the problem of not having official documents because most of the children are the result of rape, and that the victims do not know the real names of their children's fathers.

According to the judge, the Iraqi judicial system considered the crime of capturing Yazidi women, involving other institutions and some organizations in the region, as well as international organizations that helped monitor these cases, it is known that some victims were forced to migrate outside Iraq to Europe.

Figures and statistics

For its part, the Nineveh Federal Court of Appeal reported statistics from the Sinjar Investigative Courts, an alternative website, the Sinjar Judicial Chamber and the Northern Investigative Court, in which they mentioned the number of missing Yezidis and two age groups under 18 and older. They and those who remain missing in addition to identifying them by gender as both men and women.

As for the figures, the number of women (slaves) under the age of eighteen has reached 564. While the same courts have registered 1,100 cases of seizing women over the age of 18.

In his speech to the "Judiciary", the judge confirms that "the Supreme Judicial Council issued court orders appointing specialized judges to the committees for the affairs and protection of mass graves in Nineveh and giving priority to the investigation of mass graves in the region.
