The Nineveh regional Administration announced the presence of fuel smuggling from Nineveh to Kurdistan-owned areas to benefit from the "price difference" due to the current crisis in the region, the administration called on the regional government, in cooperation with local authorities, to intervene and prevent this phenomenon.

The local authorities, in turn, accused the Yezidi population of smuggling, while not presenting any evidence or detentions.

Nineveh Governor Najm al-Juburi said at a press conference held at the Petroleum Products Department with several officials after a meeting on the fuel crisis that fuel is being smuggled into Kurdistan due to price differences, and there are people from Nineveh who are smuggling and extracting fuel, and then transporting it and selling it in nearby areas of Kurdistan.

A local Yezidi resident, who would like to remain unknown, told local media: "Who would allow local Yezidis to smuggle, millions of dollars are spinning in this business, major officials and government representatives from both Kurdistan and Baghdad are involved in this case. As always, the Yezidis accuse us of all mortal sins."

The Governor of Nineveh called on officials of the Kurdistan Regional Government to combat the phenomenon of smuggling because it causes great harm to the entire Nineveh province, noting that the only solution to end the crisis is to activate the relevant anti—smuggling authorities as soon as possible.

A number of provinces, including Nineveh, are experiencing a fuel crisis, as its price on the black market has reached 1,000 dinars per liter.
