The organizers of the thousands-strong rally in Tbilisi appealed to the Council of the European Union, calling for Georgia to be granted the status of a candidate.

"We have believed in Europe more than anyone over the last three decades after our independence and have paid a huge price for our European choice… Now that the most important step on our European path is so close, we hope that you believe in us more than in anyone else and will grant Georgia the status of a candidate" the message reads.

After the appeal was read out, the EU anthem was played at the rally,
The action under the slogan "Home to Europe" in support of Georgia's European integration was organized by the “Sirtskhvilia” movement.

Activists decided to hold a large-scale demonstration three days before the EU announces its final decision on granting Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova the status of a candidate country for membership in the community. It will be adopted considering the recommendation of the European Commission, which considered that Georgia deserves a European perspective, but will be able to receive the status only after fulfilling a long list of conditions.
The Georgian authorities did not support the rally, saying that it was organized by destructive forces, and the former ruling United National Movement party was behind it.
