Denmark has allocated $2.3 million in long-term funding to UNITAD, the United Nations Investigative Team to Help bring the ISIS terrorist Group to Justice, to help the mission achieve justice in the investigation of the international crimes of ISIS against the Yazidi minority and Iraq as a whole.

"The financing agreement will support the key areas of UNITAD's work until the end of 2025," UNITAD said in a press release published on Sunday. Which includes supporting the capacity-building of the Government of Iraq in the field of technical and digital investigations and facilitating UNITAD's investigation of sexual and gender-based crimes and crimes against children.

The new contribution builds on Denmark's previous support for UNITAD, which began in 2019 and provided support for important aspects of UNITAD's mandate. The press release notes that the partnership between UNITAD and Denmark has already led to notable achievements through the organization of a training course on domestic criminal law and international humanitarian law for Iraqi judges.
The partnership also led to the creation of the innovative artificial intelligence platform UNITAD Zeteo (Zeteo).

"Building the capacity of the Iraqi justice system to hold ISIS accountable for sexual violence, gender—based violence and violence against Yazidi children is vital to building a stable and peaceful Iraq," the Danish Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Stig Paolo, was quoted as saying in a statement.

Christian Ritscher, Special Adviser and Head of UNITAD, also praised the partnership, calling Denmark a "vital supporter" of UNITAD's work, adding that the latest long-term funding is another example of an existing strong partnership. Special attention will be paid to the application of these technologies to the crimes of ISIS terrorists, which included the sexual enslavement and recruitment of Yazidi child soldiers.
The statement was made on the sidelines of a conference on ISIS held by the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin to discuss the issue of financial flows of extremists.
