Georgia will receive an invitation to the NATO summit to be held in Madrid at the end of June, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joane said.
"Georgia is a partner with enhanced capabilities, with which NATO has a long–term cooperation," Joane said.
He noted that NATO welcomes the right of countries to choose their own path.
"The open-door policy remains important for NATO, and I can say that Georgia is a very important partner, the Black Sea is becoming very important. We see the blockade of the Black Sea, Russia's attempts to strangle Ukraine's economy and create problems with food security in other parts of the world. The Republic of Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina are also very important partners," Joanne said, answering a question from Georgia's Channel One.
Earlier, the idea of the participation of the leaders of Georgia and Ukraine in the alliance summit in Madrid was supported by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The Secretary General made the corresponding statement in an interview with the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
The next NATO summit is scheduled for June 29-30, 2022 in Madrid. It is expected that the participants of the Madrid meeting will discuss the possibilities of implementing the NATO 2030 program, the purpose of which is to deter future threats, including the "growing aggression of Russia."
