The National Bank's foreign exchange reserves fell to a one-and-a-half-year low

The international reserves of the National Bank of Georgia as of April 30, 2022, amounted to $ 3,826.4 million, according to the website of the National Bank of Georgia.
Since the beginning of the year, reserves have decreased by $445.7 million or 5.7%. Reserves reached a historic high at the end of 2021 – $4,272.1 million. In 2021, the growth of reserves amounted to $ 361.3 million.
The volume of foreign exchange reserves approached the value on November 30, 2020, when it amounted to $ 3,751.5 million.
According to analysts, the decrease in reserves is due to foreign exchange transactions of the Government of Georgia and banks, as well as the revaluation of assets due to currency fluctuations.

Structure of international reserves

International reserves converted into foreign currency are the main part of the reserves of the National Bank and amount to $ 3.3 billion, according to the regulator's website.
Their structure includes funds placed in securities – $ 2.4 billion, and currency held in the accounts of foreign banks and the IMF – $ 908.3 million.
In addition, the reserves of the National Bank include funds placed in special borrowing funds (SDR) – $ 465.2 million, and the reserve position in the IMF is $ 29.3 thousand. The National Bank of Georgia does not store funds in gold.
The value of other assets in the structure of foreign exchange reserves is $ 15 million.
