On May 11, a meeting was held in Brussels between Yazidi activist Nadia Murad, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Cros.

Nadia told the press that she was glad to meet with the Prime Minister of Belgium, Mr. Alexander, to discuss several important topics concerning the Yezidis, namely, the current situation in the Sinjar region and political conflicts threatening the existence of the Yezidi community in Iraq.

Belgium and other European countries can aid the Yezidis on a permanent basis, intervening in ending political conflicts and providing them with support in Sinjar so that the Yezidis can live safely in their areas, or open the door of shelters for those who wish to emigrate, since camps for displaced persons pose a threat to the whole society.

The topic of the need to bring perpetrators to justice for crimes of genocide and sexual violence was also discussed.

According to Nadia Murad, European countries can follow Germany's example and use the global problem to prosecute ISIS members and support the creation of internationally supervised courts.
