Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said that Georgia got a chance to accelerate its accession to Europe thanks to the struggle that Ukraine is waging with Russia.
"With its selfless, heroic, defensive struggle, Ukraine has renewed and hastened the opening of the way to Europe for us. Ukraine and every Ukrainian who sacrifices himself for the protection of his state, at the same time sacrifices himself and fights for our freedom, for the freedom of the whole of Europe, for his and our European way," Zurabishvili said at the celebration of Europe Day organized by the EU delegation.
The President urged "to be able to appreciate the sacrifices made for us."
"Today we have to know how to support Ukraine, how to show solidarity and stand next to the Europeans in this solidarity," Zurabishvili said.
She noted that the European Union is facing a very difficult challenge today, since "Russia has declared war not only on Ukraine, but also on all the principles on which Europe stands — the laws of international law, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of each state, justice and democracy."
