The NATO representative urged Georgia to restore the pace of reforms
Javier Colomina, NATO’s Special Representative for the Caucasus, and Central Asia said that the alliance is concerned about the pace of reforms in Georgia.
"In the last year, for a year and a half, the processes have stopped. We are concerned, both in the alliance and its allies," Сolomina said in an interview with Formula TV.
He confirmed that NATO considers Georgia a very valuable partner.
"One of the things that Georgia needs to do is to restore the path of reforms in order to regain the title of champion of reforms that Georgia had a few years ago — three years ago," the NATO representative said.
Сolomina noted that the annual national plan for Georgia lists 10 recommendations, primarily judicial reform, electoral reform and oversight of the security sector." The NATO representative also noted that "political polarization in Georgia, the prevailing atmosphere in domestic politics is not beneficial."
A few days earlier, after a meeting of the foreign ministers of NATO countries and Alliance partners in Brussels, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO would expand support for Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Last autumn, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili confirmed the country's commitment to the idea of joining the EU and NATO during a speech at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the latest survey of the "International Republican Institute of the USA" (IRI), fully or partially 75% of the Georgian population supports joining NATO. 20% answered in the negative, another 5% did not answer or refused to answer the question.
