The commander of the Ezidhan forces, Haidar Shesho, and one of the Yezidi commanders of the Lalesh region, Shangal Hal Ali, recently made a statement that the Yezidis should not interfere in the conflict between the Iraqi army and the PKK.

Haidar Shesho stated that the youth of Shangal should not fight against the Iraqi army in the ranks of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), since this party does not serve the interests of Shangal and the Yezidi people.

"As a Yazidi people, we should not fight against the Iraqi government. Baghdad and the international community helped us in the war against ISIS, the youth of Shangala should not join the ranks of the PKK and participate in its fighting. I hope that the fighters remaining in Shangala will surrender to the Iraqi government, because the PKK's plans do not serve the people of Shangala and its people," the Yezidi commander added.

Hal Ali said that the tension arose due to disagreements between the Iraqi army and Hashd al-Shaabi over the deployment of forces in the area.

Describing the clashes between the Iraqi army and the Shangal Self-Defense Unit (YBS) at some joint checkpoints in Khanasor, Dugur and Sinun as a "conflict between the army and Hashd al-Shaabi," Hal Ali stressed that it would be more expedient to solve problems in an already sensitive area through dialogue before they escalate.

The Shangal Self-Defense Unit (YBS) is an official part of the Iraqi armed forces, when asked what his position is regarding the clashes between the self-defense unit (YBS) and the Iraqi army, the commander of the Yazidi brigade as part of Hashd al-Shaabi replied that "he does not consider it right and does not approve of conflicts and problems between the two Iraqi armed forces. Both forces must fulfill their responsibilities to put an end to this war that is harming the civilian population."

Hal Ali said that the Shangal Self-Defense Unit (YBS), which he called the "80th Hashd al-Shaabi unit," made some mistakes, especially when the PKK came to the area in 2014 and began training YBS fighters.

"They have always been involved in politics, they hold demonstrations in Shangala, showing posters of Ocalan. However, Ocalan and the PKK, which had thousands of armed members for years, never cared about us (Yezidis). The OSH (YBS) needs to correct this mistake and immediately sever ties with the PKK," Hal Ali said.
