Christian Reacher, Special Adviser to UNITAD (the United Nations Investigative Group to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by ISIS), recently visited Lalesh, where he met with Yazidi cleric Bawe Chavishe and discussed the current situation and problems that Yazidis continue to face after all the atrocities committed by ISIS terrorists against them.

UNITAD is tasked with investigating crimes against humanity committed by the ISIS terrorist group in Iraq.

In February 2022, an investigative team discovered and excavated seven mass graves in Shangal, where most Yezidis live.

The emergence of ISIS and its violent attack on the Yezidi city of Shangal in August 2014 led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of representatives of the Yezidi nationality in the commission of crimes that are now widely recognized as genocide.

Until now, more than 2,000 Yazidi women and children abducted by terrorists are missing, and their fates remain unknown.
