On December 14, the National Bank of Georgia opens the sale of a new gold collectible coin with the image of King Tamar.
To popularize the history of the country, the National Bank continues to work on a collection series of coins "Kings of Georgia".
On December 13, gold coins dedicated to David Agmashenebeli (the Builder) went on sale.
The sale of a gold coin with the image of Tamar with a face value of 5 lari will begin at 10:00 Tbilisi time. The coin is minted from 900 gold, its diameter is 25 millimeters, weight is 8.5 grams.
Coins can be purchased through an online platform www.tkt.ge
The National Bank issued David and Tamar coins of two types: gold and silver. The coins were minted at the Lithuanian Mint.
In total, 3 thousand silver coins are available, the cost of each is 110 lari.
Gold coins were issued in 500 pieces, the cost of each is 1.5 thousand lari.
The silver coins of David and Tamar will go on sale on December 15 and 16, respectively.
The coin is minted from 925 sterling silver, is 34 millimeters in diameter, and weighs 17 grams.
The purchased gold coins will be delivered to the consumer by the end of December, and silver coins - by the end of January 2022.
Description of the coin of King Tamar:
The main composition of the obverse of the coin is a bas-relief of King Tamar from the frescoes of the Betania Monastery. To the left of the bas-relief is the handwriting of the queen, and on the right side is the inscription "Queen Tamar", the period of her reign "XII century" and the Tamar symbol on the obverse of the issued coin (in the case of a silver coin, this detail is gilded).
On the reverse of the coin is an image of the crown of Queen Tamar (reconstruction according to the fresco of the Bertubani monastery of the David-Gareji complex). The coin bears the inscriptions: "5 lari", "2021", "Sakartvelo" in Georgian letters and "Georgia".
Sketches of David and Tamar coins were selected at an open competition and prepared by Nita Gongadze.
