Ekaterina Tikaradze has resigned from the post of Minister of Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Protection of Georgia. The decision was announced at a briefing at the central office of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
Tikaridze paid special attention to the projects and reforms she worked on after her appointment as head of the Ministry of Health of Georgia in June 2019. She promised to continue her activities in these areas in the Georgian Dream party.
"As a result of consultations, we considered it the right decision that I would continue my activities in the political council of the Georgian Dream party. We have decided that I will strengthen the Georgian health and social protection systems right here, in the Georgian Dream party," she said.
Ekaterina Tikaradze did not announce the reasons for her resignation, but there is a version in the media that there was a conflict between the former head of the Ministry of Health and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili over "green passports".
Unlike the head of the government, Tikaradze did not support the indefinitely valid "green" or "safe" status for those who have had coronavirus. Epidemiologists and health experts held a similar position.
The issue of changing the regulations was discussed at a meeting of the coordinating council for combating COVID-19 on Monday, December 6. Several TV channels, citing their sources, reported that Tikaradze and Garibashvili were arguing in raised tones. According to Formula, in the end, the prime minister refused to discuss changing the indefinite "green" status for those who have been ill, and Tikaradze stated that she did not intend to be responsible for possible consequences.
Ekaterina Tikaradze served as the head of the Ministry of Health of Georgia in the governments of three prime ministers – Mamuka Bakhtadze, Giorgi Gakharia and Irakli Garibashvili. Prior to joining the Government, she was the General Director of the Sachkhere District Hospital (Imereti region).
Tikaradze is 45 years old. She is married and has two children. She is a graduate of the Tbilisi Medical Institute, which is no longer functioning today. In 2005, she completed a course in general dentistry. In 2007-2008, she completed a full course of maxillofacial implantation in Germany, and in 2015-2016 — a course on hospital sector management in Germany.
In 2016-2019, she studied in Austria, at the Danube Krems University, in the direction of the hospital sector of economics and management of health management. She received a Master's degree in Management and Business Administration.
