The National Bank of Georgia has started selling collectible coins with the image of David Agmashenebeli

The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has started selling a new collectible coin with the image of King David the Builder (Agmashenebeli). This was reported in the press service of the NBG.
The coin with a face value of five lari is made of 900 gold. It was minted at the Lithuanian Mint with a circulation of 500 copies. Its diameter is 25 millimeters, and its weight is 8.5 grams. The cost of a gold coin with the image of David Agmashenebeli is 1.5 thousand lari.
On the obverse of the coin is an image of David the Builder from the frescoes of the Gelati monastery (in his left-hand David holds a model of the Gelati monastery, in his right - the imperial sign "Kappa". There is also an oak leaf with two fruits - acorns - this is a symbol of the church reform carried out by King David.
The main composition of the reverse of the coin is the image of the crown of David the Builder (reconstruction based on the fresco of the Gelati monastery). There are also inscriptions: "5 lari", "2021", ("Sakartvelo" - NG)— and "Georgia".
The sketch of the coin belongs to Nita Gongadze. NBG chose him through an open competition.
From November 22, a collectible coin with the image of David Agmashenebeli, made of silver, will also go on sale. You can purchase them through the NBG online store. At the same time, only one copy is available for each buyer.
The coin belongs to the cycle "Kings of Georgia". It is dedicated to the rulers who played a pivotal role in the history of the country. The first coin of the series was released at the end of 2020 and was dedicated to Heraclius II. In December, sales of gold and silver coins with the image of Queen Tamar, also made according to Gongadze's sketch, should begin.

The main composition of the obverse of the coin is the image of Queen Tamar from the frescoes of the Betania Monastery. To the left of the bas-relief is a painting of the queen, and to the right is the inscription "Queen Tamar", the period of her reign is "XII century", and a symbol (in the case of a silver coin, this detail is gilded).
On the reverse of the coin is an image of the crown of Queen Tamar (reconstruction according to the fresco of the Bertubani monastery of the David-Gareji complex). There are inscriptions on the coin: "5 lari", "2021", "Sakartvelo"
