To date, there are disputes on the territory of Shangal (Sinjar) and the Nineveh Valley, to whom will the region where the Yezidi population lives go, to Kurdistan or Iraq?

In fact, the region belongs to Iraq, there are PKK parties and armed detachments, Peshmarga, the Iraqi army and police, local Yezidi self-defense detachments, UPJ detachments, etc. on the territory of Shangal.

It should be recalled that local representatives of Yezidi nationality serve in almost all paramilitary detachments, both in the PKK and in the Peshmerga, in the Iraqi Army and in the Yezidi self-defense detachments. Most of the Yezidis got into these detachments because they have nothing to feed their families and they are forced to serve in these detachments for financial reasons. Some for ideological reasons, and some serve in these detachments under duress.

And to this day, the Yezidis have disagreements, namely, between parties, organizations, and military groups. Unfortunately, there is no "smell" of cohesion and unity here.

Some of the population, under the leadership of their parties, adhere to Kurdistan, others to the federal authorities of Iraq. Another part of the population supports the PKK, another Peshmerga.

As a result of all of the above, the local Yezidi population suffers, which itself has not decided how to live on, who to support and on whose side to be.

Today, the Yezidis are calling on the federal government and the international community to implement the Shangal Agreement, to withdraw all illegal gangs from Shangal.
