Temporary isolation points for citizens who have confirmed or suspected coronavirus have been opened at four checkpoints on the borders of Georgia.
These are Tbilisi International Airport, Sarpi checkpoint (Georgian-Turkish border), Krasny Most checkpoint (Georgian-Azerbaijani border) and Sadakhlo—Avtomobilnaya checkpoint (Georgian-Armenian border).
In case of detection or suspicion of infection, citizens crossing the border will be transferred to an isolated room.
The project "Ensuring the sustainability of Border and Migration Management in Georgia" was implemented by the International Organization for Migration with the financial support of the European Union and the recommendations of the World Health Organization.
Isolation points in the context of a global pandemic are an important step towards ensuring the health of citizens and at the same time contribute to legal migration, the Ministry of Finance Revenue Service said in a statement.
The opening of the isolation point in Sadakhlo on the Georgian-Armenian border was attended by the head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Georgia, Sanya Selebich Lukovak and the representative of the EU delegation, Jurate Juodsnukite, as well as the head of the International Relations Department of the Tax Service of Georgia, Samson Uridia.
"I want to thank you again for the support of the project. We hope that our fruitful, result-oriented cooperation will continue in the future," Vladimir Khundadze, Deputy Head of the Tax Service of the Ministry of Finance, said at the opening.
