Statement by Ms. Diarra Dime-Labile,
Legal Adviser of France to the United Nations
76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly
New York, 30 September 2021
Dear Mrs Nadia Murad,
Minister Fuad Hussein,
Excellencies,

"Thanks to all the panellists, and thank you for organizing this event, which is a very good reminder that we must not forget the atrocities endured seven years ago in Iraq by the Yezidi community and other minorities.
The enactment of the Yazidi Survivors Law is a key step towards the recovery of the victims, and I commend the efforts of the Iraqi authorities on this matter. I would also like to thank UNAMI for its advising role in this regard. Now is the time for implementation and effectiveness of the law, including the payment of financial compensations to the survivors. It is essential that survivors, in particular female survivors, get the support they need to have a fresh start in life.
France is highly committed to supporting Yazidi survivors as well as the other minorities in Iraq. In 2018, President Emmanuel Macron took a personal commitment towards the Nobel Peace prize Mrs Nadia Murad: several dozens of Yazidi families were flown to France to be resettled. In partnership with Nadia’s initiative, France has also decided to provide long-term support to the Yazidi community in Iraq, including the rehabilitation of a primary healthcare center and the construction of a hospital in Sinjar.
The French commitment to enable survivors to reintegrate society is also materialised through our 6.2 MEUR contribution to the International Fund for Survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence, an initiative led by Nadia Murad and Dr Denis Mukwege.
Be assured that France, as a close partner to Iraq, stands ready to help on this very important issue and I thank you".
